For performance, you’ll need at least one of each of the following:
- Line A: Flute/Oboe/Clarinet/Alto Saxophone/Trumpet/Mallets
- Line B: Flute/Oboe/Clarinet/Alto Saxophone/Tenor Saxophone/Trumpet/Horn/Mallets
- Line C: Bassoon/Bass Clarinet/Tenor Saxophone/Baritone Saxophone/Horn/Trombone/Euphonium
- Line D: Bassoon/Bass Clarinet/Baritone Saxophone/Trombone/Euphonium/Tuba/
- Percussion: Temple or Wood Blocks, Triangle, Sleigh Bells or Tambourine
*Line C is also included for Flute/Oboe/Clarinet/Alto Saxophone/Trumpet/Mallets, but if you have full instrumentation it is recommended that you do not have these parts play this line.
I arranged Maoz Tzur to honor Jewish people and their celebration of Hanukkah.
In America, measures 7-8 of the tune are typically a repeat of measures 3-4. However, in England measures 7-8 are altogether different, and highlight a temporary harmonic movement to the V chord. I found this musically interesting, and utilized this rendition in my arrangement!
There are many grace notes and additional musical material. Depending on what instrument are playing which lines, be aware that the grace note can in many cases be lowered or raised by a half step to accommodate specific instrument fingerings. Take caution in changing the grace note if you are combining different instruments on the same line so that they do not clash with one another!
